OUR TRANSFORMATIVE
JUSTICE EDUCATION

With our environmental justice and climate education programming, we help students develop the tools, skill sets and practices that empower them to tackle climate change and pressing environmental issues in their own communities.

Our justice curricula is unique in that it:

Supports School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programming and Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) so students can learn green professional skills while staying on track for graduation.

Provide avenues for educators to localize our lessons via profiles, locational directories, and more, so that learners can more fully relate to teachings.

Directly funds, mentors, and provides environmental-justice related working and organizational opportunities for youth-led action and leadership.

Since 2019, we've been listening to teachers, students and organizers  interested in promoting climate awareness to create a blended learning experience for classroom needs.

As such, we follow the HILL Pedagogies for liberatory and justice-oriented education, which reflects the histories, victories, and struggles of Black, Indigenous and Communities of Color so that all students can see themselves in our environmental justice and food justice lessons.

Transforming Clasrooms: Celia Cruz High School for Music

S:E established a hydroponic gardening program at the Celia Cruz High School in the Bronx to educate students about climate and food justice. We regranted $5,000 to support teacher labor and pay for the greenhouse and hydroponic tent.

20+ pounds of microgreens were harvested for distribution to students and staff members to help fight food insecurity by providing easily accessible, nutritious produce in the school community. S:E also provided an engaging Career and Technical Education (CTE) skills-training resource, developing young agro leaders through the teaching of our Food Justice curriculum.
